New chairs around a table at American Legion Post 409 in Allen Park, MI.

If you’ve visited the post club room in the past few days you should have noticed new chairs around the tables. The new seating was the culmination of many

weeks of effort to find sturdy, functional, comfortable chairs that would also be as long lasting as the previous chairs. It looks like a success.

Post Commander David Babbage, Junior Vice-Commander Elmer Boutin and Executive Board Member Ray LaVigne formed the trio behind the hunt. They visited several stores, including Sam’s Club, Costco and Staples. They eventually settled on some sturdy metal chairs that were purchased from Restaurant Equippers.

As they were being put away, Ray and Elmer noticed that the bottoms were stamped with the year 1979, which means they had been in service for nearly 40 years. As Ray put it, “We certainly got our money’s worth out of them.”

Several of the club room patrons have complimented the new seating, saying that they were a welcome update to the place. Some are talking about other improvements that might be done such as new carpeting.

If anyone has any recommendations for updates to the club room, please refer them to members of the Bar Committee. Or, better yet, come to a meeting and let your voice be heard. The next regular Post 409 business meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 12, 2018.
