On October 29, 2018 a groundbreaking ceremony was held at the site of a new Veterans Home being built in Chesterfield Township. This will be only the third such facility in Michigan; the other two being located in Grand Rapids and Marquette.
The location was chosen, in part, due to the proximity to Selfridge AFB. In addition, 1/3 of the nearly 600,000 Michigan Veterans live in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties.
